Netball Career:
I first played netball at junior school. At senior school I played for the school team and also represented my District and County (for any Americans reading this, that’s County, not Country – big difference!!).
During my last year of high school, field hockey took over, and during University netball became something that was ‘just for fun’ – occasionally playing for my hall of residence or for my academic department on my days off from field hockey.
Post University, both sports became just for fun, and in London, I played netball from time to time with a group of friends in a social league in Highbury & Islington.
When I moved to California in October 2005, discovering a netball team here was just fantastic and I’ve been playing with the Stars since the start of the 2006 season.
Interesting Facts:
I was the first girl to be born into my Dad’s side of the family for 97 years and made the front pages of the Daily Mail and The Sun for my troubles (I’d like to re-emphasize front page, not page 3!)
Why is Netball important to you?:
The buzz of team sports can’t be beaten…. You get to exercise and socialise at the same time… You meet fantastic, fun and interesting new people… It reminds me of home… And it means I can go back to color coordinating my training outfits and not be ridiculed for the effort – hockey girls aren’t nearly as understanding!!
